Why is Juicing Wheatgrass Beneficial?
The benefits of juicing wheatgrass are extraordinary. Wheatgrass is the luscious green grass that comes from the very young wheat plant. It is harvested early when it is young, vibrant and full of rich green chlorophyll. If left to grow, it forms a shaft of wheat and produces a grain – a very different food altogether. Wheatgrass is harvested for juicing very early in its growth cycle, at approximately 12-14 days maturity. This is when the plant is between 10 and 15 centimeters tall. The recommended daily intake of juiced wheatgrass is 30mls (a shot). It is important that this measurement is exact and is not exceeded, especially in the initial stages as your body is adjusting to the potent effects of the wheatgrass. The most effective and tasty method of incorporating wheatgrass into your diet is to add it to a glass of freshly juiced fruit or vegetables. As you take wheatgrass daily, your body will begin to detoxify and remove the harmful build up of toxins in your body. This initial detox stage can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. For the vast majority of people, juicing wheatgrass will be greatly beneficial and will not produce any side effects at all. However, for a small number of people wheatgrass can cause them to feel nauseous in the initial stages. This is generally due to the detoxification effect that occurs as the body rapidly removes impurities and toxins. Once the toxins are removed from the body, these “detox effects” will subside. You may even further increase the fibre in your diet by including the pulp fiberous plant matter with your juice.

Cold press juicers are different to blenders or centrifugal juicers. Blenders and centrifugal juicers use a blade to chop up or extract the juice from fruit and vegetables at a high speed. This creates heat and friction, killing vital enzymes and nutrients. On the other hand, a cold press juicer slowly crushes its content, and thereby retains most of its essential nutritional goodness.
